Judo begins Sept 7 !!!

The Almonte Judo Club welcomes the start of another season, Wednesday September 7. The Club originated in 1968 and has seen more than 1,500 students from Almonte and surrounding communities pass through the doors since that time. Classes are held weekly in the upper hall of the Almonte Arena. The premises underwent a significant renovation last season and the facility is one of the finest judo dojos our Region has to offer! While we practice on Olympic calibre mats, family members can enjoy a spacious and comfortable viewing area and the company of others. Paved parking is ample and free, there is direct elevator access, adjoining kitchen facilities, modern washrooms and so much more.
Judo is a martial art of Japanese origin, established by Dr. Jigoro Kano in 1882. Judo is an Olympic sport, a recreational pursuit, a means of self-defence, a way of life …. and so much more! A common question asked ; ‘Is there striking involved?’ In reply, there is no hand or foot strikes but there is physical contact and an element of grappling. Students work with partners in order to develop their judo techniques, and in so doing they improve their flexibility, balance, coordination, stamina and strength. Through the practice of judo, students develop mind and body in a safe and well controlled environment, and have fun while doing so!
Our Club is built on the premise of ‘Confidence, Fitness, Fairness, and Discipline’. If any or all of these attributes appeal to you, perhaps judo is your calling. Judo is practiced by more than 100 million people in nearly 200 countries , and is second only to soccer in worldwide popularity. It is practiced by young and old, male and female, and also accommodates differently abled athletes. Almonte is very fortunate to have such a well-established club, steep in tradition, and very affordable to everyone.
We invite you to join Head Instructor (Sensei) Gord MacDonald and all existing members to experience a martial art with benefits for life! Registration and first class coincide with ‘Mississippi Mills at a Glance’, all being held in the Almonte Arena, Wednesday evening, September 7. Meet some of our team downstairs, or come upstairs to view a class in session. The Almonte Judo Club offers ‘unlimited’ free classes while you/your child decide whether judo is suitable and fulfills your expectations.

We hope to meet you soon!!
